I have to say the title is misleading. This book has a few pages tacked on the end that are actually "how to." The rest is a collection of amazing artwork by famous lettering artists... which is exactly what I was looking for. I had to knock it a star because it's worthless a how-to illustrate letterforms book as it claims in the title. But I love referencing this book when starting a new piece. The photo is something I drew that was inspired by a piece in the book. -Made By Marzipan, letterist

This book is a collection of examples of type illustration from many professionals. You see samples of their work and their websites are listed. This was the best part of the book. This is not a good instruction book on drawing type, so like another reviewer, the title of this book is really misleading. The end is kind of sad in that the author spends about a dozen pages giving an intro to type classifications, type anatomy, tools (duh) and a couple of (too brief) exercises. The book ends with about 15 pages of specimen sheets so you can trace copies of letters from basic fonts like Times and Helvetica. If you want to see lots of good examples of professional typographic illustration Pinterest is free.

I love this book not because I wanted it but because my dog bought this for me when she walked across my keyboard. I had no idea until I received the package.

My favorite book on typography and lettering. Interesting interviews with artists who share their technique and styles. They all give really good insight into their design process. Wouldn't really call this a "how to" book. More of an influence, really. Highly recommended.

The perfect book for beginners in hand-lettering who are looking for references and tips. It exhibits a wide range of artists from all over the world and their outstanding work that makes other artists like me really inspired and excited to learn this skill.

I use this book frequently to get ideas and tips! It's fantastic!

Awesome book for any typography artist. Very inspiring material for beginner or professional.

it was a gift for my sister and she was really excited about it. It is not 5 stars because I am missing more excercises on how to do cool caligraphy, not just alphabets in different fonts in the end of the book.
